Perspectives for Veterinarians in Changing Aquascape
(Presentation in english format)
In about 30 years, aquatic animals will provide over 50% of edible protein as per FAO and OIE estimates. Aquaculture today is already providing 20% of the protein, more than each separate terrestrial animal production, except pork industry. The money spent by hobbyists keeping ornamental fish in Germany alone is estimated to about 0.5 billion EUR annually. However, there are very few veterinarians involved in this fast growing field.
The presentation will provide the audience with current data and discuss educational opportunities and career perspectives for veterinarians in aquatic animal medicine.
